General Information
Our farm offers you the hospitality of our Sienese countryside, where an authentic rustic lifestyle provides a natural setting.
It is located amid the fascinating scenery of the clay hills of Siena, where medieval castles and villages are scattered among landscapes of rare beauty, and rugged gullies wind through the gentle hills of the Val D’Orcia, which fade in the distance toward Mt. Amiata.
A soothing symphony of emotions, a work of art composed of hills, secluded farms, woods, vineyards, wheat fields, and cypresses, an irregular patchwork of shapes and spaces, all interweaving into a harmonious whole.
Il Poggio, which came into being through the joining of two family farms, was run as a traditional farm in the past.
It began operating as farm holiday establishment in 1987, with the initial restorations on the farm buildings, our horses and stables, and the Punto Ristoro country snack bar/pizzeria in Cantano.
The Casale, the main lodging for guests, is completely restored and stands in a splendid position overlooking the magnificent landscape of the clay hills of the Val d’Orcia, the imposing Radicofani fortress, Mt. Amiata, the austere medieval tower of Celle sul Rigo, and San Casciano Bagni.
Here on the first floor there are five suites, charmingly furnished and with many modern conveniences and comforts.
There are two swimming pools next to the Casale, and one of these has a wading area for children.
In the central farm building, delightful, completely separate apartments form a small village, il Borgo, for eco-tourism holidays.
Created in the place of the old stables for horses, it is modeled on the plan of a tiny rural village, with its small square, the inner courtyard, and a garden for each unit.
A large room with a cantina is open to the guests, and can also be used for meetings, courses, and conferences.
The various furnishings were made by local craftsmen in keeping with Tuscan and Sienese styles.
Within the classic warmth and simplicity of a rural home there is also space, however, for modern comforts and conveniences, ensuring a totally relaxing stay for our guests.
