Address - Via Sughera, 50050, Montaione
General Information
Il Poggio, is set amidst 70 hectares of stunning Tuscan countryside where it is possible to hunt (c/o Azienda Faunistico-Venatoria) and where children can walk and play in safety.
However, to really start to understand Italy and The Italians, you need to experience their food! At Il Poggio, you can take part in one of the cooking courses held by Mrs. Graziella with their informal atmosphere. Here you will learn to prepare traditional Tuscan pasta dishes, bruschetta, game and pizza and sample of Il Poggio's noted wines. At these courses there is usually someone who speaks English or German - so language need not be a problem. These courses tend to be popular and so you will need to pre-book.
And that’s not all. It is possible to take elementary Italian lessons, given on the premises. If you don’t speak any Italian, a few hours of study will help you shop, explore and eat-out and in Italy especially, an effort to learn the language is much appreciated.
As well as daily breakfasts in the open-cellar, Il Poggio also holds weekly evening dinners for its guests on the beautiful terrace with its panoramic views. Often accompanied by musicians - it is a classic and typical way of enjoying the Tuscan sunset.
There is so much to do within Il Poggio that you may never want to leave! However, it is possible to rent mountain/touring bikes from the office with which to explore the fabulous surroundings, for within a couple of miles, you will find both horse-riding facilities a golf club as well as a flying school!
Il Poggio consists of 18 self-contained apartments. These vary in size; the smallest have just one separate bedroom - but using camper beds can accommodate up to four people, others have two bedrooms and can house up to six adults.
Although the interiors vary according to the age of the building all are a tasteful mixture of traditional decor with modern facilities. All the apartments have a bathroom/shower and in the larger ones - there are two. As well as the farmland itself - each apartment has a private area in front of it with table and deck chairs provided. The fitted kitchens have a fridge, an oven with cooking hobs, coffee machine, as well as a good selection of cutlery and crockery. In the living area there is satellite television - carrying channels in a number of languages.
We would like to think that we provide 'a home from home' for our guests and that nothing is lacking so that you can get on and enjoy your holiday.
During most parts of the year the office or 'L'Ufficio' is staffed with someone who understands French, German and English and there are always farmhands in the vicinity, who will do all they can to help you with any queries you may have.
We hope that your first visit to Il Poggio, will mark the start of a life-long relationship with Italy in general and Tuscany in particular. Doubtless your experience with us will remain with you and that those memories will remind you of another place and another time....
