 General Information

In the quietness of the "Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi di Monte Falterona e Campigna", at 815 mt., the Farmhouse "La Capannina" has been finely restored maintaining Tuscan traditional features and style. The house is completely built with stones, the inside has wooden ceilings and brick details and the garden presents terracotta and cast iron finishings. The furnishing is rustic and comfortable and a fireplace with an aga stove complete the atmosphere. In the garden you can find a small collection of old farming tools, bowl game and a children playground.

OUR HOUSE
The Farmhouse "La Capannina" belongs to the family since the beginning of the century. The previous building and stables have been restored and opened in 2000. The surrounding fields (now covered with fern treesand protected by the Park) were used to grow wheat and pulses for the use of the farmer's family. Chestnuts and beech trees supplied food and mushrooms.
The family tradition continues with sheep breeding and the production of home made cheese and dairy products still in a traditional way.
La Capannina is the ideal place for those in search of a complete relax and a contact with nature and wild animals: deers and wild boars are a common sight at dawn and dusk. The house lies next to the "Via de' Legni", an old track used to carry timber from the forest to the river Arno. It is a favorite starting point for trekking and bike riding along the many paths in the wood.

THE ENVIROMENT
Casentino is the first valley formed by the river Arno and is located in between Florence, Arezzo and the Romagna. Its territory is rich in Romanesque Parish Churches and Medieval Castles. Pratovecchio is the birthplace of the Renaissance painter Paolo Uccello (famous for his studies on perspective) and Dante has paid few visits to the area. Nevertheless the main feature is the thousand years old forest and the three Monasteries built under its quietness: Camaldoli (1012), La Verna (St. Frances received stigmata here in XIII century) and Vallombrosa.

Casentino is the place for those who love visiting cultural and historically relevant places but also for those who love nature and seek a relaxing and a slow paced holiday. Yet they have a choice of leisure activities: a 9 pit golf course, horse riding schools, Spa in Stia, and various museum of local History. Casentino has a prime position for those who want to visit the main art cities (Florence, Arezzo, Siena) but wish to visit a Tuscany with a difference.
