Pieve di Santa Giulia, Vicopisano - Pisa in Toscana
In posizione leggermente periferica, nell’immediata campagna che circonda il paese, è posta la pieve di Santa Giulia. Ricordata con sicurezza dal 1096, le strutture architettoniche testimoniano che la chiesa fu però costruita intorno al IX-X secolo, sebbene in dimensioni più piccole rispetto all’attuale. Intorno al XII secolo la chiesa fu oggetto di lavori d’ampliamento, che si concretizzarono tra l’altro nell’erezione della navata sinistra (poi distrutta nel Cinquecento e adibita a cimitero), nell’intento – presto abbandonato – di trasformarla in un tempio a tre navate, ma quella destra non fu mai edificata. Danneggiata dai fiorentini nel 1433, la chiesa fu abbandonata e ripristinata nel 1597: a quella data, la navata sinistra era stata adibita a cimitero. Successivamente più volte ristrutturata dai Bracci Cambini che vi esercitavano il patronato come dimostrava lo stemma sulla facciata (tolto durante il restauro).
